Patient Testimonials

I spent about a year researching plastic surgeons. Based on his credentials, years of experience, before & after pictures, personality and knowledge, I chose Dr. Portuese to perform my Rhinoplasty. I’m happy to report I made the right decision. I have the nose I have always wanted. It looks exactly the way I dreamed it would. I look like myself, just better. I had no complications. I had minimal bruising, swelling and pain. I would highly recommend Dr. Portuese, he did an amazing job listening to my concerns and gave me a beautiful nose while still retaining my natural characteristics. I wanted to share my story because I am extremely happy and want other people to be happy too.

I am a patient who you performed nose & chin surgery on a few months back. You may ask yourself why I am writing a letter.

Well, this is just an appreciation letter because you are unarguably the most professional, and in a positive way, perfectionist doctor I have ever come across. You are still taking care of the follow ups with my procedure and you are doing an excellent job, I sincerely thank you.

Sincerely,
A.B.

My sinus infections had progressed from an occasional annoyance to a painful chronic condition. The antibiotics gave me some relief from my symptoms but they didn’t seem to clear up the infections. My quality of life began to be affected. My body was taxed by the infections and my energy level was compromised.

CT Scans showed that my sinuses were completely clogged. I had a deviated septum, facial pressure/pain, decrease in smell, decrease in taste, post-nasal drip and allergies. I had been on antibiotics for five weeks straight. Dr. Portuese said that I could benefit from endoscopic surgery to correct the anatomical defects, open up and clean out the diseased sinuses, remove the polyps and correct turbinates. Dr. Portuese also tested me for allergies and found that my allergies contributed to polyp formation.

My surgery was performed in his state of the art surgery center, as an out patient procedure. The recovery was painless. There was no nasal packing. Dr. Portuese uses the latest surgical techniques.

I can now breathe much easier and have complete relief of all the symptoms that I had before the surgery. I am now receiving allergy injections to help prevent recurring polyp formation and allergic rhinitis.

Many thanks to Dr. Portuese and his staff for contributing to my improved health.
D.H.

“Hey guys! I received Rhinoplasty a year ago. I love what you did by the way! At first I was scared, but afterwards I knew Dr. Portuese was genius, and his staff are all awesomely nice!”

“Dr. Portuese was great. He didn’t force the surgery on me. Instead, he discussed what is usually done with cases like mine besides surgery, such as allergy shots, which I was already getting. Since we had exhausted everything and I really wanted to get this issue solved, I opted for the surgery. One of the good things about having both procedures done at the same time was that I only had to go under anesthesia once. The hard part was the recovery afterwards. My throat really hurt! Also, since I couldn’t breathe through my nose yet because of the sinus surgery, I had to breathe through my mouth. Since I was 37 years old at the time of the surgery, I was told I would have a longer recovery because I was an adult. Dr. Portuese used the newer method for tonsillectomy. If he had used the older method I would have been in some really serious pain. Nevertheless, I had no regrets about the surgery. I happened to be on vacation and they gave me plenty of medicine to cope with the pain. Once I fully recovered, I was surprised about what it was like to be able to breathe through my nose! I had not been able to for so many years, I had simply forgotten about it. I originally asked for a referral to an ENT that was located in Ballard. They have a small office in Ballard in addition to the big one on First Hill. I’m glad that my PCP referred me to this place. I am so impressed by this office that I try to refer anyone there.”

I wanted to share my experience of why I got rhinoplasty and my life after Dr. Portuese.

After my wedding day, I was nervously waiting for my wedding pictures. I was both exciting to see them, but nervous how I looked. After, looking at all the pictures over & over, I kept focusing on all the ones of my profile. In the past, I had always tilted my head or angled my body so nobody ever took a picture of my profile. During my wedding, the photographer was all over the place, so I had no control how I posed. I had never actually seen a picture of my profile, so I never realized how much I really hated it. I then, started to become extremely self conscious in everyday situations. I tried so hard to never let anyone talk to my side. When I was public speaking, I was more nervous about people staring at my profile, than my actual presentation. I always thought about rhinoplasty, but never investigated it because of the fear and the financial cost.

I started to research different doctors in the Seattle area. I scoured websites and read every testimonial I could. In the end, I narrowed it down to 2 doctors – one in the Bellevue area & Dr. Portuese. I scheduled consolations and honestly at the time, I didn’t know what questions I would ask or how I would decide which doctor to go with.

My first consolation with a doctor in Bellevue was horrible and I wanted to give up. But, my husband convinced me to at least see the 2nd doctor – Dr. Portuese. I decided to go with Dr. Portuese because he and his staff made me feel very comfortable. I didn’t feel rushed during the consolation and he made sure I didn’t leave his office until he answered every question. The deciding factor was when he put a mirror in front of my face and showed me exactly what he was going to do. And then he took a digital picture and showed me before/after. This instantly took away most of my fears. His office manager Janet then explained the entire process from beginning to end. Her transparency, on everything that will happen and could happen made me feel like I was doing the right thing. The cost was actually very reasonable, compared to other doctors in the area. One thing that impressed me was how upfront Dr. Portuese is with his cost and associated risks. The post surgery care Dr. Portuese office provides was exceptional. I had major surgery on my nose, since it was crooked and had to be rebuilt. So, I have probably seen Dr. Portuese 10+ times, since my surgery so he can ensure its healing on track. He has shown and proven to me that he will continue to see me until myself and him are 100% satisfied my nose is fully healed. I can’t thank him enough for how much he has changed my life. My self confidence has improved so much and I am so comfortable in social situations. I am no longer trying to hide my face; I can finally just take a picture, relax and smile.

Sincerely,
N.S.

My chin was receding pretty extensively. Teamed with a larger nose, I was never a fan of my profile. After extensive research I decided to consider a chin implant and rhinoplasty. After meeting with my doctor, we agreed a large implant teamed with the rhinoplasty would balance out my profile as I desired. Surgery was combined, and quick. I had moderate swelling in the chin, with no pain. After about 5 days there was the only visible sign of bruising, which was just some small greenish marks around my jaw. Within two weeks everything looked great. The only clue that anything was done is the small incision mark that is only visible from underneath. The incision scar is slowly fading away as time progresses. Dr. Portuese is very knowledgeable and straight forward, has a great staff, 20 years of experience and great eye and talent for making natural-looking results.
